Let me tell you a story.
At work on saturday a family came in and was attempting to order from my coworker. I work at starbucks so for ESL people the menu can be quite challenging. I listened as they tried to order and noticed that their heavy accents seemed to be french. So I asked them,
"Parlez-vous français?" (Do you speak french?)
and proceeded to take their order. (they wanted mocha frappuccinos but less bitter and more sweet, so less coffee and more chocolate, and they wanted 3 grandes and 2 falls, as well as a venti nonfat with whip white hot chocolate.)
This is probably the first time in 13 years that I have actually been able to apply the french that I’ve been studying since I was 4. I’ve been giddy since then.
